Decorate your floor without having to spend a fortune!

Have you got a patch of flooring that you would like to hide? the kids stained it and you just cannot get rid or the mark?  Maybe you just have a large area and want to put something there to add some colour and life?

Today we have three fantastic cheap and effective ideas for decorating your floor from DIYideas. 1. Vibrant Vinyl

Using an old remanent of vinyl you can cut it down to size and after giving it a good clean up, can repaint it and then using a stamp create a pattern such as this leaf one around the border.

2. Brighten a Jute Rug

This Jute rug was once a boring brown, but with a bit of paint and some thick sticky tape has been turned into a fun and funky rug.  Of course you do not need to use super bright colours and instead may go for a more natural look.

3. Painted Design

Our final idea (courtesy of DIY Ideas) is the Painted Porch.  Here they have used two different tones to create a stripe.  First the porch is painted with the shades and then a stencil is applied to get the chicken wire effect, though you could use any type of stencil.

So you are in the market for a new rug?

Back in August 2007 in Iran, the authorities unveiled the world’s largest rug, reported National Geographic.  At 5,625 square metres, the soccer field sized rug is bigger than any house I know!

In fact this amazing run took 1,200 villagers over a year and a half to weave, and with that many workers, do you wonder whether there is a fault?

Well I am not sure, that fact is not contained in the record books. Though, when buying a carpet for your home there are some things you do need to look for.  Check to find out what the carpet is made of, it will usually be wool, cotton, silk or a synthetic material.  It goes without saying that the cheaper it is, the more likely it will be the latter and commercially made on machines.

So the first question to ask yourself is what sort of statement do you want to make with your carpet or rug?  Going for a handmade rug will look fantastic, but are you really going to be prepared to let your kids eat their cereal while sitting on it?  Like most purchases, really consider how you want your rug to work in your house, what uses it will have and how you want it to interact with your lifestyle.  With this information in hand, along with an understanding of your budget you are ready to shop!  DIY Bargain Bin stocks Rugs in the Flooring / Tiles / Carpets / Timber and Rugs category, though most of ours are not your handmade expensive oriental imports!
